castera.jpgINLAND LAKE AND BEACH - At Castera, a Thermal Spa town just 8km from Mounon du Nord, you can find a large inland lake fed by thermal springs, with its own beach, water slide, volleyball and various water sports. Close to the lake you can find mini golf, tennis courts and also trotting and horse racing.

RIVER CRUISES - The Baise which has been navigable since the time of Henry IV, has found its second youth in the section that runs through the Gers. By following the twistings and turnings of the river along a stretch of almost 65km, you can discover the old route of the barges and sailing barges.

LAND OF FESTIVALS AND EVENTS - Throughout the season, there are several music festivals that bring the sounds of Jazz, Country and Western and Salsa to the local villages together with the traditional fetes. The world famous jazz festival of Marciac, the country music festival in Mirande, tempo latino in Vic Fezensac and the astronomy festival in Fleurance are just a few examples.

BULL FIGHTING - All too often bullfights are associated only with Spain and one forgets it is an integral part of the Gascon culture. Every year large numbers of aficionados are drawn to the two bullrings in the Gers, EAUZE and VIC-FEZENSAC.

RUNNING OF THE HEIFFERS - At La Course Landaise is one of the oldest bullfighting events in the South of France. It is a traditional sport, a game of bravery and brightly coloured event. Running the heiffers keeps alive the spirit of joie de vivre, the daring and the panache of the famous Gascon musketeers.

HORSE RACES - Horses are a passion and a tradition in Gascony. There are no less than 15 different horse events in the department during the summer season: horse races, horse shows etc in the following communes: Auch,Eauze,Condom, Mirande, Fleurance, Terraube, Cazaubon, Vic-Fezensac.....

EXERCISE - More than 600 kilometres of signposted routes for hikers to discover (on horseback, on foot, on bikes or mountain bikes). In addition to the many lakes where you can practice all sorts of water sports, the Gers has a great many rivers for canoeing and kayaking. You will also find numerous Golf courses, Go Karting, Quad Biking, jet ski, flying and aerial sports.

VILLAGES IN BLOOM - The "IN BLOOM" campaign mobilises a great number of communes in Gers. From the early days of springtime, the department adorns itself in colours and surrounds itself with perfumes, all of which change as the season progresses.
